Yesterday we returned home from a pretty blissful Thanksgiving trip to Husband's family home on St. Simons Island. When we are on the island we like to take multiple daily beach walks, lie on the couch, read books and often nothing else. This trip, joined by my parents and Brad's sister and her husband, we also squeezed in Thanksgiving dinner and a day trip to Savannah.
On our first night on the island we headed straight to Echo at the newly renovated King & Prince. I was curious to check it out after researching the hotel's history and posting its interior makeover here. It looked as good as it had in the photos and was buzzing with families celebrating the Thanksgiving holiday. I was particularly smitten with the huge fireplace and the multiple seating groupings surrounding it that provided lots of room for conversation.
Our Thanksgiving meal was a success with everyone chipping in to prepare a few dishes. I made my new favorite appetizer- this beet and goat cheese tart. We decorated the table simply with candles and shells we found around the house and my recently inherited grandmother's crystal glasses and gold flatware.
On Friday we braved the crowds with a day trip to Savannah. We wandered through Forsyth Park, stopped in front of my alma mater SCAD, ogled the gorgeous architecture and shopped along Broughton Street. Our favorite shop was the Sylvester & Co. Modern General store which was full of great gifts and yummy coffee. We sampled Savannah's local brews and cheeses for lunch at Dept. 7 East before heading home.
Only three short weeks until we head back to SSI for Christmas! The prettiest photos above are courtesy of the lovely Laura Leighton.
