Design For Good: PET Lamp Project

Its not too often that you can buy a light fixture for your home (or restaurant, shop, etc.) and partake in an anthropological adventure at the same time.

The PET Lamp project gives you that exact unique opportunity. The project began in 2011 in Columbia as a way to coexist with local artisans. It combines recycled plastic bottles with artisanal wicker weaving skills to create simple, colorful and modern looking pendant light fixtures of different shapes and sizes. I think they’d look great in a group of three over an outdoor bar!

The project gained such popularity and success, it has expanded to two additional locations including Chile in 2013.

PET Lamp’s website explains that the project has become a way to get to know the people of different countries in a meaningful way, as the moments of their daily lives are woven into a product full of their stories.  The organization hopes to expand to a different location every year, so that we may be lucky enough to get to know more people of the world. I love design for good.
