Charleston is a dream. Everyone says so and everyone is
right. Although I have lived in Atlanta for eight years and on the East Coast
my entire life, until last week I had never been to Charleston. And it is right up my alley. Gorgeous
architecture, friendly people, an exploding restaurant scene and that ocean
breeze. What’s not to like?
We stayed in a private condo, The Rutledge Avenue Inn, just off
King Street and across from the famed Hominy Grill. Morning walks along the
battery, bike rides to Glazed Doughnuts and sipping iced coffees while trying
to spot dolphins are some pretty good ways to start the day.
I found my favorite new design shop along King Street,
Mitchell Hill. The store is filled with well curated art from local artists
like David Ryden and Molly B. Wright, whose unique bottle cap pieces have been
a long time favorite of mine. We also explored College of Charleston and between
feeling old and not cool, we loved it!
Husband was happy that we were able to ride our bikes
everywhere we needed to go in Charleston, including dinner, in heels. We rode
to Leon’s Oyster Shop on our second night and felt just like locals. Our favorite dishes were the hush
puppies (we voted them best ever), green leaf salad (with grapefruit and
anchovy dressing), and the fried oyster sandwich. A quick ride across town and we finished the night at Husk with fancy drinks surrounded by fancy people.
More trip details to come next week!
